Check a company before you pay it
One NIP — the VAT status from the Ministry of Finance register, confirmation that a bank account is on the white list, and company data from the GUS register. The result comes with the request identifier that proves the day you checked.
- VAT status
- active, exempt or not registered
- Bank account
- whether it is on the register today
- GUS data
- name, REGON and address from the register
We use public registers: the Ministry of Finance's VAT payers register and the REGON register kept by Statistics Poland (GUS). Company names and addresses come back exactly as those registers hold them, which means in Polish. This page is for information and is not tax advice.
Why it matters
On a transfer of PLN 15,000 or more, what is at stake
is not convenience but your costs and your tax.
Tax-deductible cost
Paying into an account outside the register means you cannot treat the expense as a cost — to the extent it went outside the register.
Joint liability
You become jointly liable for the VAT your supplier did not pay on that transaction.
ZAW-NR within 7 days
You can avoid the consequences by notifying the head of your tax office within 7 days of ordering the transfer.
Common questions
The white list, explained
- What is the Polish VAT white list?
- It is the register kept by the Ministry of Finance of entities registered as VAT payers, removed from the register and reinstated. Among other things it shows the VAT status and the settlement account numbers reported to the tax office.
- Why should I check my counterparty's bank account before paying?
- For business-to-business payments of PLN 15,000 or more, paying into an account that is not on the register means you cannot treat the expense as a tax-deductible cost, and you become jointly liable for the VAT your supplier fails to pay.
- I already paid into an account that was not on the register — can it be fixed?
- Yes. You can avoid the consequences by filing a ZAW-NR notification with the head of your tax office within 7 days of ordering the transfer.
- Is the result on this page proof that I checked?
- Every search of the Ministry of Finance register has its own request identifier. We show it with the result — that is what confirms the check was made on a given day. Keep it together with the payment document.
- What does a check cost, and do I have to register?
- The check is free and needs no account. We use public registers: the Ministry of Finance's VAT payers register and the REGON register kept by Statistics Poland (GUS).
